Consolidated LB-30 AL640

The LB-30 AL640, known as “Jungle Queen,” was a Liberator variant initially built for the British Royal Air Force but inducted into the United States Army Air Forces (AAF). Delivered to the AAF on January 6, 1942, it was assigned to the Sixth Air Force, operating from the Panama Canal Zone. Its primary mission involved conducting anti-submarine patrols over the Caribbean and Pacific. Later in its service, AL640 was converted into a transport aircraft.

The “Jungle Queen” nose art, featuring a female figure, was painted by PFC William M. Carter and adorned both sides of the cockpit, with the pose reversed on each side. This aircraft remained in service with the 6th Bomb Group until the group was disbanded on November 1, 1943.
