Stirling was the RAF’s initial four-engined heavy bomber to enter into service, and it eventually provided equipment to seven squadrons in No. 3 Group stationed at airfields in the Cambridge-Huntingdon area. The initial squadron, No. 7, began receiving Stirling bombers in August 1940. On the night of February 10-11, 1941, this unit conducted its first operation with the new bomber by targeting an oil storage depot in Rotterdam. N3641 MG-D, a Stirling Mk I Series 1, was the second to join No. 7 Squadron.
