Supermarine Spitfire Mk V W3760 Floatplane fighter

The Mk V floatplane prototype (W3760) was likely finished in a unique color scheme featuring Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey on the upper surfaces, with the undersides painted Trainer Yellow. The aircraft also bore a prototype ‘P’ marking on the fuselage, indicating its test status. An 8-inch black serial number was applied in the standard location on the rear fuselage.

Later versions of the Mk V floatplane followed the standard temperate sea scheme, which also used Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey for the upper surfaces. However, their lower surfaces were painted Sky, aligning with other aircraft in the naval and coastal roles. These floatplanes also featured the yellow prototype ‘P’ marking on both sides of the fuselage, placed aft of the roundels, along with the standard black serial numbers, further identifying them as test aircraft while maintaining visual consistency with operational machines.
