Manchester’s three-bladed propellers was driven by a Vulture X-24 liquid-cooled piston engine, theoretically rated at 1,760 hp (1,310 kW) in service form. Consisting of two V-12 units mounted one above the other in an X-formation, the engines consistently failed to deliver their full power and were prone to a series of both minor and catastrophic failures.
