Woodhall Spa Grand Slam bomb dump of 617 Squadron RAF March 1945

Designed by Dr Barnes Wallis, the 9980 kg (22,000 lb) Grand Slam ‘earthquake’ bomb was designed to penetrate deep into the target before exploding. The smaller version was the 5443 kg (12,000 lb) Tallboy.
