Panzerjäger I (“Tank Hunter 1”) was the first of the German tank destroyers to see service in the Second World War. Panzerjäger I saw action in France, North Africa and during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa in the Soviet Union. Panzerjäger I was quickly replaced by tank destroyers that were more heavily armed and better suited for the tank killing mission (e.g. Marder).
